Sleazy Staples continues his unbroken string of sociopathic behavior

–noun Psychiatry .
a person, as a psychopathic personality, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

Today Hank Gilbert revealed the most stunning example of Todd Staples absolute failure to effectively manage TDA and yet another reason why we need to return Staples to his appraisal business in November.

Gilbert claims Republican incumbent Todd Staples is at fault for the death of a 2-year-old Lubbock girl in 2007. Vantashia Samuels died from inhaling phostoxin fumes. The family purchased the pesticide from an employee at Red River Commodities who was not licensed by the Texas Department of Agriculture to apply or use the pesticide. Gilbert called out Staples and blamed him for lax regulations and inspections…

“This incident is a direct result of the failure of Todd Staples as Agriculture Commissioner of Texas. He knew this agency was under-staffed when it came to regulatory inspectors. He did nothing,” Gilbert said. “Thanks to not having enough inspectors, a company here in Lubbock, was allowed to get away with unlicensed and illegal application and storage of one of the most deadly toxic fumigants on the market and because of that a 2-year-old child died.”

TDA’s job was to inspect this facility and make sure that they were storing their deadly chemicals safely and securely. Unfortunately, years of politicians with no respect for regulations that protect human life (including Todd Staples) meant that there were too few inspectors needed to do the job. Then you have an employee who used those chemicals and the end result is a mother who even today grieves for her child.

And TDA’s response? They fined those responsible a pittance, took no criminal action and then in an unbelievable move, sent a letter to the mother telling her she could be prosecuted.

And what is Staples response to this? To call Hank a liar and continue to refuse to accept responsibility for his actions. Just like every issue Hank has brought to light, this one too is apparently not Staples fault. So, let’s run the list…

  • The almost 1,000 people who either died or got sick as the result of salmonella tainted peanut butter? Not Todd Staples fault since he wasn’t responsible for inspecting the facility. And he fired the guy who worked for him who did and then tried to ‘dodge’ the issue in the press.
  • Out of compliance gas pumps, in every section of the state some which haven’t been inspected since RICK PERRY was Commissioner, are also not Staples fault.
  • Not properly equipping field staff at TDA, even though he should have been aware it was a problem, was also not Todd Staples fault. Neither is the respiratory illness that has developed in at least one inspector as a result of not having the proper equipment.
  • Reread the definition of a sociopath and tell me that isn’t Todd Staples.
