OK, friends… tougher drunk driving laws including reducing intoxication limits are really pointless right now. You’ve hit the bottom. In fact, I’d like to see how many fatalities are caused by repeat offenders who technically aren’t even supposed to have a license or be anywhere near a car? The reality is that while you may be impaired from a BAC of 1.0, you’re not drunk. You’re not going to pass out, cross into oncoming traffic and cause a head on collision. And that’s HIGHER than the current limit of .08 and far higher than Chief Acevedo’s bone headed Driving While Ability Impaired which would be activated by as little as one drink per hour.
We do not need to further reduce the limits. We need to step up enforcement, change how DWI’s are tracked (including pleas to reduced charges) and educate. Even then, there are going to be some people who are going to get loaded and drive. All you can hope to reduce is reduce the number of those people. Quit turning the rest of us into criminals.
