Putting on the big girl panties

Last week, TSTA put out a weak ass press release about how horrible the R budget is that I won’t bother to link to because, frankly, they clearly didn’t understand their audience nor did they understand their opposition.

In the release, they came really, really, really, really close to asking sternly for more money for education. From ‘the Legislature’. They did not call out the Republicans who got us into this mess, nor did they beat up on them for digging the hole still deeper. They have no real power (let’s be honest here for a second… TSTA does a piss poor job of communicating with those it represents. Who was it they supported in 2006?) and can effectively do nothing.

The response to this sort of criticism is that they can’t afford to piss off a big chunk of the Legislature. Of course, this ignores the fact that one party literally wants to kill you (how many Union-friendly Republicans do YOU know?) and doesn’t give a crap about your constituency. And that’s what I’m most irritated about right now… we aren’t being nearly clear enough about what Republicans are and what they represent. 2008 didn’t change that. There is no kinder, gentler, Republican Party.

At the end of the day, if you aren’t willing to play hardball, no one really cares what you have to say.
