During his massively uncomfortable response to the President’s State Of The Union address, Republican Senator Marco Rubio made a comment about how big government caused the housing crisis, repeating a lie that’s been rolling around since that fraud Peter Wallison thought it up.
“This idea – that our problems were caused by a government that was too small – it’s just not true. In fact, a major cause of our recent downturn was a housing crisis created by reckless government policies.”
I call this a lie because that’s what it is (I’ve covered this kinda extensively because it’s my favorite lie of the ignorant right). Government policy didn’t persuade banks to manipulate the ratings agencies and sell securities to investors they knew would go bad, the banks did all that on their own because Government wasn’t watching. Here are some other things Senator Rubio missed when he dropped his little lie in between pulls on that water bottle.
