Out of the Filicluster mess comes the Republican Response… Governor Perry said:
“Even the woman who filibustered the Senate the other day was born into difficult circumstances, the daughter of a single mother and a teenage mother herself. She managed to eventually graduate from Harvard Law School and serve in the Texas Senate,” Perry said of the Fort Worth Democrat. “It’s just unfortunate that she hasn’t learned from her own example: that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential; that every life is precious.”
This would, of course, make sense if you are a particularly stupid elected official (which Perry certainly is) and thought that allowing a woman to make her own medical decisions in conjunction with her doctor somehow meant all women would have abortions during every pregnancy, which I think everyone with an IQ over 55 (a group which, sadly, probably doesn’t include Perry) can see is some really smelly bullshit.
Then there was our very tall failure of a Lt. Governor…
“Obama-style, mob-rule politics exploded in the Texas Senate on the final day of the first special session, derailing legislation of great importance to Texans. The message sent by the angry throng gathered from across the country was clear: they will stop at nothing to undermine conservative Texas values. When abortion activists attack the sanctity of life, when the Supreme Court erodes the nuclear family and the Obama administration imposes radical environmentalism on our economy, I have four words for them: COME AND TAKE IT!
“Texas is strong because Texas is free and my unrelenting passion is to fight those who would take it from us. Fortunately, the legislation derailed by the mob has been given new life by Gov. Perry in another special session that begins Monday, July 1st. I hope you will join me in my ongoing efforts to stand up for what’s right, to push back on the liberal left and preserve the conservative values that made Texas great.”
So, suddenly, Dewhurst is blaming his failure to control the Senate on folks in the gallery that DPS had little problem controlling? Right. It had nothing to do with the unethical (and possibly illegal) way he conducted business during the Filicluster. Right now, in heaven, Lt. Governor Bullock is chewing out someone with a fury that would rival the nastiest thunderstorm. That person doesn’t deserve it, but they were close by when Bullock saw what an inept assclown now sits on his dais.
Of course, we aren’t the only ones who noticed Dewhurst’s failure… his Republican opponents did as well. Sleazy Staples, who has failed at Ag Commissioner even more brilliantly than Dewhurst has at Lt. Governor, issued his usual mealy mouthed statement about needing someone to keep Texas on the path to prosperity. To me, it’s always funny when a guy whose biggest accomplishment is marrying well talks about prosperity.
Land Commissioner Patterson issued the same kind of pro forma attack on Dewhurst as Staples and it was ignored just as quickly.
Fuckall, can we get some competence up in this bitch?
